Swimming @ Wigmore Primary
Swimming and water safety is an extremely important part of the PE curriculum at Wigmore Primary and another way of helping children to lead healthy and active lives.
Throughout the academic year, pupils in Yr 4 and Yr 5 attend swimming lessons at Inspire sports centre once a week.
We also provide opportunities, later in the year, for children in Yr6 who have not met the national curriculum requirements.
This ensures that every pupil leaving Wigmore primary have the opportunity to reach the National requirement by the end of Year 6.
Pupils are grouped according to their ability and are taught to -
- Swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres
- Use a range of strokes effectively [for example, front crawl, backstroke and breaststroke]
- Perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
2019 - 2020
Current Year 5
74..54% working at national expectations
25.4% have progressed past national expectations
Of the 14 pupils not to achieve expectations, 9 of them are on the threshold and with some interventions in year 6 and out of school hours lessons these pupils should achieve national expectations which would take us up to 90.9% of pupils meeting national expectations.
